Fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis) occurs when excess fat accumulates in the liver. It is one of the most common liver conditions worldwide and is classified into two main types: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) and Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD).

Grades of Fatty Liver:
Grade 1 (Mild): Fat deposits cover 5–33% of the liver. Usually asymptomatic.
Grade 2 (Moderate): Fat deposits cover 33–66% of the liver. May cause mild discomfort.
Grade 3 (Severe): Fat deposits exceed 66%. Risk of inflammation and fibrosis is high.

Common Symptoms: fatigue, upper right abdominal discomfort, and general weakness. Many patients remain asymptomatic until the condition progresses.

Treatment: Lifestyle modification — including dietary changes, exercise, and weight loss — remains the cornerstone of NAFLD treatment. Consult our gastroenterology team for a personalised management plan.
